We all know that video is taking over as the biggest form of content marketing online. It’s now the most watched media and the social giant Facebook are going all in and seeing exceptional growth. Mark Zuckerberg was quoted saying In five years most of Facebook will be video” – you better believe it.

6 months ago, we launched a digital marketing service and we’ve seen some incredible results relating with video compared to other content mediums. Taking that one step further, Facebook video has been a game changer.

Will text become obsolete from the internet now video’s king? Hubspot has some great statistics including video on a landing page being able to increase conversion rates by 80% and 92% of video consumers share their videos with others!

Let’s get down to business.

We’ve been monitoring the past 6 months worth of data from our clients and each month video has continued to drive everything else forward on the page. The most shocking look at our month’s statistics has got to be the comparison of video to text. Looking at the chart below we can see that video is storming ahead at 4,748 compared to 73 in written status updates.

These are clear cut results representing the push on video and how it’s changing the world the way uses social.

Video vs. Live Video

Live video is the big thing for social business now, we’ve had the new Instagram Stories follow from Snapchat and now Facebook Messenger adds live video to augment your messages. So video vs live video – what’s the deal?

The video is often pre-produced, scripted and perfected. In opposition, live video is spontaneous and instant. This method of video can not only be seen as more personable and exciting but you can express your industry knowledge there and then to your audience. Live video also means instant engagements and interactions (great for your marketing), people can like and comment while you’re live – so you could, for example, organise a Q&A and answer any questions. Think of it as a conference or networking event from the comfort of your corner coffee shop.

So What Does This Mean For Your Business?

Video opens up huge opportunities for your business whether it’s live or video on demand.

Live streaming can be key if there’s breaking news or live events and opens up the market for freelance journalists and bloggers, small businesses and more. What better way to update people on the latest news than by getting onto live vid?

On the flipside video on demand is beneficial for global businesses when it comes to training because it can be accessed at any time by employees. For example, if you’re a global business and have an urgent meeting and your technical developer is working from another country, live video is an excellent option.

YouTube Censoring Content

Video giant YouTube are now censoring content that is going out and YouTube stars are going mad. A hashtag about the uproar, #YouTubeIsOverParty, has been tweeted more than 174,000 times since it was created 24 hours ago.

What’s Happened?

Censoring on videos that can make money including a big list:

  • Sexually suggestive content, partial nudity, sexual humour
  • Violence, including a display of serious injury
  • Inappropriate language, including harassment and vulgar language
  • Controversial or sensitive subjects including things relating to war, political conflicts, natural disasters and tragedies (even if graphic imagery isn’t shown)

Why Did Twitter Freak Out Over YouTube’s Content Censoring?

In the world of video where you’re encouraged to stand out and be yourself, you have to be on YouTube. YouTube’s known for its parody video’s, the place for political debates and often funny but offensive content ready to “offend or shock”. On the other hand, this could be a positive as it’s improved the way users receive notifications which could be previously seen as ambiguous.

But whether it’s seen to create a huge impact on the platform itself we are yet to find out. Our bet is that YouTube isn’t going anywhere and no matter what it’ll come back fighting.

Businesses Who’re Taking On Video!

Video is central to Facebook’s future plans for the platform, recently we’ve seen live streaming move to the top of the Facebook page and now to the addition of Facebook messenger we’ve got live streaming that’s just happened. After releasing their latest video statistics we’ve found out that: people spend on average 3x times longer on video live compared to video which is no longer live.

Undoubtedly this social platform is the catalyst leading others into the video revolution and we’ll see the landscape of advertising change dramatically, with speed.
